45th Annual International Phosphate Fertilizer & Sulfuric Acid Technology Conference

Each year for the last 44 years, members of the AIChE Central Florida Section and colleagues from all over the world have gathered at Clearwater Beach to share their ideas concerning Chemical Process Technology, specifically the production of Phosphoric Acid, Phosphate Fertilizers and Sulfuric Acid. The annual Clearwater Convention is hosted by the Central Florida Section of the AIChE. This year’s convention, our 45th at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort in Clearwater, will be held on Friday, June 10th and Saturday, June 11th.

This year’s Sulfuric Acid Workshop after two challenging years will focus on the particle motion and elimination of emissions from sulfuric acid plants. The Workshop will include a review of the science behind particle motion, which has been lost by regulators. The US Congress passed the Clean Air Act of 1970 that set the emissions requirement for New Plant Performance Standards. The Law has not changed in the last fifty years but, the environmental authorities have altered the requirements of emissions to obtain new operating permits. These changes are different from Company to Company and region to region. This Workshop will review technical and practical options available to meet the challenges. The session will include presentations that will be geared towards practicing engineers with various degrees of exposure to the sulfuric acid process, plant operation, and plant maintenance. The Workshop’s objective is to assist engineers in evaluating the operation and the maintenance of their plants.  It is necessary for engineers involved in plant operations to fully understand the variety of issues. Following the presentations, there will be a panel discussion providing participants an opportunity to have their questions answered by our distinguished panel of experts in the industry.
